![]() (RNS) Because the mists of legend are rapidly enveloping the life and career of the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr., the federal holiday honoring him is an annual reminder of how much we lost in 1968 when he was assassinated at age 39. It is not surprising that President Obama mentioned America’s most celebrated civil rights leader in his State of the Union address to Congress. The president spoke of King’s strong belief that the voices of “unarmed truth and unconditional love” would ultimately triumph in the political arena. |
